Ok...after only 2 hours (or more...) on photobucket I finally have a slide show ready for ya! This trip was awesome. We were contacted last year by Texas Outdoor Child after a friend of T's did a fundraiser for them. They take children who are terminally ill or have physical limitations on hunts around Texas. It is an amazing program! Our hunt was scheduled at the Rocking S Ranch in Gonzales, courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Spann. The ranch was beautiful and Mr. Spann had the cabins built to ADA standards so it's wonderful for disabled hunts.
We left Friday morning and that night, believe it or not, J shot his antelope within 5 minutes of being in the stand...and we almost didn't go out that night! He shot right where he has been taught and to my amazement was wondering what he could shoot next! I believe a young hunter, much to T's excitement, has been born :) (although as you can see in the pics...he's not one for the actual cleaning and gutting of the animal quite yet!) Our hunting guide, Shane, was great, J thought he was the man! Shane had J in his lap in the stand with T and helped him aim but even he was surprised that J pulled the trigger right when they said to try it. Robert and Larry, the Texas Outdoor men, were in the stand with me right behind J's stand. We were just as excited as they were I think! These 2 guys made J laugh all weekend. The work they do is such a blessing to the kids they take hunting. Jake, the ranch foreman, was our cook for the weekend and it was all very tasty. I think T & J almost traded me for Jake after trying his enchilada casserole! J also fell in love with all 4 dogs that were at the ranch, which was not a surprise. Shane took us on a truck tour of the property early in the afternoon on Sat. and although the high winds were keeping some of the animals in hiding, we were able to spot some amazing wildlife. Later in the day on Sat. we were able to meet the owner of the Rocking S, Mr. Dwayne. He is a very generous and friendly man. He had J giggling and joking after supper that night until he couldn't even talk he was laughing so hard.
We were pampered for 3 days, man was it hard to come back to a house I have to clean and food I have to cook...hee hee!
