Family Favorites Friday!

Well, it has been a long week and I have missed blog world! I asked J this week to remember a funny or favorite family story (b/c my brain is not up to par this week!). Sadly, being a boy, being mine and T's boy that is...his fondest memories are full of bodily noises. And I must admit, most of them are funny, but not appropriate to share here yet!
Then he remembered a short fun memory from 2 summers ago. It was after summer camp, at Fiesta Texas. Let me preface this by saying...my boy LOVES water, he takes any chance he can to get sprayed and soaked. After walking all across the park, we finally happened upon the large water ride...you know the one, it's a very short ride with a big passenger boat. You go up a ramp and then fall down a ramp and make a huge splash at the bottom. The biggest part of the ride is not the actual ride, it's standing up on the bridge as the boat crashes into water, this sends a ton of water up and over the bridge soaking anyone who is brave enough to stand up there.
My boys were brave. The bravest of brave. T took J out of his wheelchair, knelt down so J could stand and face the waves. I, of course, volunteered to document the event with the camera. They stood so strong and sure of themselves. J was giggling with glee, he couldn't wait for the water to hit.

10 seconds later...it hit. And I mean HIT! All of the sudden my brave, sure men were down on their rear-ends. T, by kneeling, wasn't as prepared for the impact as he thought he would be and lost control of both of them. The best part was the rest of the crowd around them were all soaked yet standing and several of them were rushing over to check on T & J. At first, J was a bit freaked out, then they both were laughing. They were as wet as wet could be and J was ready to do it again! This time, T learned from his mistakes, they both stood up and T held onto the railing...I am proud to say they survived the 2nd splash standing tall and strong ;)

Family Favorites Friday - Take 1!

Ok...I will admit, this is something I think is a wonderful idea and I really hope to have some great stories and memories to put down every Friday...but this Friday ran away from me. This whole week ran away from me, I have had a lot of actual work to finish (yes, I do have a few "not-family" jobs, paying jobs!) so I let blogging slip.

However, after reading GFG's Friday post, it reminded me of a funny food incident in our family. The year was 1999 and we were having Christmas at our home for my family rather than at my parents. This was a first and we were excited because it was J's first Christmas at home (his real first Christmas was spent in NICU at Texas Children's b/c he was born right before the holiday). T was pumped to cook turkey, dressing and giblet gravy (bleck!). We had a great old home that we were slowly working on and loved to have people over to enjoy it. (Ok...so looking back, we were always way more "into" our old home (built in 1917) than any of our visitors, but we loved it!)

Mom, Dad and my brother arrived, J was being adored by all and T was in the kitchen working on gravy. He couldn't figure out why it wasn't thickening. He continued to add flour and it continued to stay runny.

He finally took a taste.

The look on his face was priceless...a puckered up "What in the WORLD have I done to this?" face.

You see, I am a Tupperware girl. I keep all of my staples and cereals in Tupperware, I swear by the stuff. Never have had a weevil in my flour...I've had them in my pantry, but never in the stuff protected by Tupperware (and no, I get no compensation for mentioning this from Tupperware!)

Well, while my Flour container was labeled...my hubby admittedly didn't pay any attention. He simply saw a white powdery substance and automatically assumed Flour.

No, my friends, it was powdered sugar. Sadly, this ended up being the Christmas without giblet gravy for my man and besides turkey, it's what he lives for around the holidays!

Funnier than that...I have since learned that the hubby of one of my friends here has done the exact same thing!

Family Favorite Friday!

My friend over at Grateful for Grace is starting a new fun, Friday blogging event and I really want to do my best to play along.

Family Favorites Friday! Here's what we are to do...blog about your family stories, memories and moments....The ones the kids love to tell about. The ones they love to tell strangers as soon as they are introduced because it was so hilarious. The ones they love tell to perfect strangers while snort laugh hunched over with glee. The ones that make parents roll their eyes, sigh, or giggle. The ones we parents like to tell. The ones our parents loved telling that we want our children to grow up hearing or knowing about. The memories we recall from our younger years. I don't know about you, but my mind forgets things so easily, no matter how much, at the time, I think "Oh, I'll remember this moment forever".

So...Family Favorites Friday is now born. Every Friday I'll do my best to post a story that's a family favorite here in our home or a memory I want to pass down to J that I might have almost forgotten. I encourage you to link up to my blog and to Grateful for Grace's blog and share a story of your own. Let's face it... while the stories are favorites today, memories fade (the closer I get to 40, the quicker they fade...course I'm only 25 so what am I worried about...LOLOLOLOL!). I'm sure each story shared will bring therapy to its readers. Laugh therapy. Heartwarming therapy. For free. The best kind. So... start reminiscing and start writing. Get ready for Family Favorites Friday.
