Longest Foot Bridge

Before leaving Rusk, our fearless den leader Becky took us to what Texas claims is the longest footbridge in the nation. It was pretty cool, however we all decided that it must be considered the longest "footbridge" because of the wording. We know of longer walking bridges but they have different names (pass, walking bridge, etc...)...because while it was long, it surely isn't the longest? I could be wrong.

By this time the boys were tired and it was hot, but we were glad she took us b/c none of us, even those of us born and raised in this area, had any idea it was there!

The now official "Webelo 2" 's !! bunch of nose-pickin' nuts!

State Historical Marker reads: Rusk Footbridge. (546 long, 4 feet wide). First built 1861 as the means for residents east of the valley to get to town during rainy seasons. Rebuilt in 1889 by T.H. Barnes, engineer building New Birmingham (now ghost town, to the east). Maintained by city of Rusk until 1950. Restored 1969 on plans by Barnes
