When You Know...

Anyone who knows me even a bit knows I'm a music person. Not as in "I play an instrument"...just music, singing, etc... I have always related to songs, lyrics, tunes...my iPod is one of my most treasured earthly posessions. It's always with me so if I'm ever in a Survivorman situation, I'll atleast have some tunes (well, until the charge runs out..but since I've watched Survivorman, I should be able to figure out how to charge it from a tree stump or something, right? )

Anyway, another of my favorite things in life is enjoying a good movie, mainly girly movies. And when you are a music person like I am, you hear some great songs in those movies and thanks to iTunes, I can download just that one song if I really like it. One of my all time favorite movies to "re-watch" (can't actually count how many times I've done this) is Serendipity, with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. I have always liked the song at the end, and only 2 days ago remembered I could download it.

Stick w/me here, I actually have a point besides "me me me!" :) When T & I were dating in high school and early college, I would make him...yep, you guessed it..."mix tapes". I'm a child of the 80's and that's just what we did back then. Yea, actual cassette tapes. Course if you are younger than 20 you might not know what that is...just know it's how we recorded music in the days before CD's and iPods!

This is how I related my feelings to T, it's how I expressed how much he meant to me, how much I enjoyed being with him. Well...fast forward many years later and he finally tells me that he listened to them but didn't quite get my whole intentions in them. Duh, H, that's not his thing. He is much better at verbally expressing his love than I am in simple conversation or writing. He would write me letters. I made him mix tapes. Gotta wonder how we ever connected, right? ha!

Well, there are still songs out there that make me think of T and my love for him. And while he thinks they are good songs, I know they "mean" more to me and I'm ok with that now. I still like to share them with him but I don't make him a playlist or anything for his truck. A good song, with just the right lyrics, brings to my heart and mind everything T is, why I love him, why I am so grateful God planned him for me, how blessed I am. The song in Serendipity is called "When You Know" by Shawn Colvin. This one expresses exactly how I felt when I realized it had always been T, that moment when I felt God thump me on the head and say "Go get him!".
Here are the lyrics...go download it, you'll love it!

When you know that you know
who you love, you can't deny it.
Or go back, or give up,
or pretend that you don't buy it.
When it's clear this time
you've found the one,
you'll never let him go
Cause you know and you know
that you know.

When you feel in your skin
in your bones and the hollow,
Of your heart, there's no way
you can wait until tomorrow.
When there isn't any doubt about it
once you come this close
Cause you know and you know
that you know.

You can feel love's around you
like the sky 'round the moon.
This is how love has found you,
now you know what to do.

When you know that you know
who you need, you can't deny it.
Or go back, or give up,
or pretend that you don't buy it.
When it's clear this time
you've found the one,
you'll never let him go
Cause you know and you know
that you know.

And it's time you come in from the cold.
And you know that you know.
